Accidental find and snapped shot while canoeing through a bog a few miles east of our home, we didn’t want to disturb but could not resist a quick look and photograph. Eggs show such promise…stored life ready to burst forth.

I could not recall where I’d shot this but Laurie did. It’s was on the hillside behind our house at the base of a rock pile that we’d created while excavating an area to store our 5.5 cord woodshed. Laurie assures me that the flower is tiny, about the size of a pinky finger…amazing colors…

Otter Tail County Minnesota, Dane Prairie Township, in the ditch on Jotan Lake Road. I love what light does to flowers. The Yellow Lady-Slipper is cousin to the Minnesota State Flower, the Pink & White Showy Lady-Slipper, these are orchids that are found in my experience on the edge of wooded areas…

There is something complex and mysterious about these flowers, they are elusive but not rare…they are complex and fascinating…looking at it feels like a trip to the past…

A beautiful, old barn on the prairie in Southwestern Minnesota, Lyon County I believe.  The grass, the wood, the shingles and the rock wall; all different textures.  The lighting is quite flat – it’d be a great B&W subject for the old Zone System method….maybe an idea for tomorrow’s PotD…

Driving home across the prairie after dinner in Wilkin County Minnesota. This pole stood in the middle of a county equipment storage yard; a messy, broken down place made bearable by close cropping.

Laurie’s canoe paddle shot in evening light in the backwaters of the Otter Tail River above Diversion Dam north of Fergus Falls Minnesota, Otter Tail County. Our daughter is a bit small for canoeing this year and I’ve missed it a bit. I love the intimacy with the water and with nature…the turtles and the waterfowl…I don’t miss the mosquitos however.

Captured during a slow hike through my woods after a light snowfall. I love the textures, the peeled back bark and the light snow fluffs caught on the bark.  The meta does not tell me which lens I used but the photo evidences some foreshortening indicating the use of a longer focal length.

Found at Tamarac Wildlife Refuge in Becker County Minnesota…hiking on the “Old Indian Trail”…a mushroom paradise on that particular soggy day. My wife and I hiked about and captured hundreds of images…I love working with mushrooms…small details…so much life on the forest floor. This mushroom was growing out of a broken birch stick lying against the base of a stump.
